About Steve Schnier
Steve Schnier is a seasoned veteran of Canada’s film and television industry, with over 40 years of experience. A graduate of Sheridan College’s prestigious Classical Animation Program in 1981, Steve’s graduate film, “Elvis: Dead in Concert,” opened the ‘Canadian Animation Retrospective’ at the 1981 Festival of Festivals, the precursor to TIFF.
Throughout his career, Steve has contributed to numerous iconic projects, including creating sound effects for “The Inspector Gadget Show” producing the inaugural season of “The Magic School Bus,” and creating the YTV cult favourite “Freaky Stories.” As a writer and story editor, he has worked on
shows such as “Atomic Betty,” “Jimmy Two Shoes,” and “George of the Jungle,” among others. His work spans TV series and movies for PBS, HBO, NBC, ABC, CBS, Walt Disney Television,
and many others.
Beyond television, Steve has curated two shows at the Art Gallery of Ontario, sent a model of Star Trek’s U.S.S. Enterprise into space, and in 2014, set and held the Guinness World Record for creating the “Largest Googly Eyes in the World.”
His interests extend to the world of puppetry, where he has provided key creative input to projects involving ultra-large scale puppetry; inspired by European giants Royal De Luxe and La Machine Compagnie.
Steve began painting seriously in 2019. An aficionado of “The Ashcan School,” he paints moving images in acrylics on wood panels, in what he terms the “Lenticular” style. His paintings are fun, happy, and filled with a myriad of details, drawing inspiration from vintage photographs, movies, and often from the antique picture frames he creatively restores to frame his paintings.
